2008 NASC Conference Information

This page has been set up for members of our New Jersey delegation to receive information about and register for the 2008 NASC National Conference, while ensuring that all necessary paperwork is sent to NJASC Executive Director Lou Miller, who is organizing our delegation and trip to Texas.

There will be a limited number of places in our delegation! The high school State Officers (8), Executive Directors (2), and our Administrative Assistants (3-4) all attend. Advisors of the State Officers will automatically be given a place if they request. After that, the remaining places will be filled on a first come first serve basis by interested advisors and their students. Therefore, if you and your students are thinking about attending NASC 2008, please do not hesitate to get your deposit and reservation form in!

NOTE: Students (other than the State Officers) MUST be accompanied by their own advisor!

Cost for Students and Advisors

The following summary details the cost for students and advisors attending this trip.

State Officers/AA's - $1000.00

  • NJASC pays the NASC conference registration fee ($375.00) for its State Officers and AA's
  • Includes lodging at the conference hotel for entire trip, 3-4 students to a room
  • Includes pre-trip, post-trip, and all conference activities
  • Includes meals during entire trip

Students - $1375.00

  • Includes lodging at the conference hotel for entire trip, 3-4 students to a room
  • Includes pre-trip, post-trip, and all conference activities
  • Includes meals during entire trip

Advisers - $1595.00

  • Includes lodging at the conference hotel for entire trip, 2 to a room
  • Depending on availability, we may be able to offer single rooms to advisers for $365.00 extra.
  • Includes pre-trip, post-trip, and all conference activities
  • Includes meals during entire trip

A $400.00 per person deposit payable to NJASC will be due by March 15, 2008 and the full balance will be due by April 15, 2008. All forms and payment must be sent to Executive Director Lou Miller at the NJASC Northern Office (Brooklawn Middle School).

Tentative Itinerary

CLICK HERE for a tentative itinerary, including NASC Conference events as well as the pre-trip and post-trip activities planned by NJASC. A quick summary of our pre-trip and post-trip events is provided below:

  • On Monday June 23, we will have a "night-before" delegation bonding activity. We would like to thank Mike Nolan of Bordentown Regional High School for organizing this last year and again this year.
  • We will fly on U.S. Airways out of Philadelphia International (PHL) Airport on the morning of Tuesday June 24, taking a direct flight to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Airport.
  • There is likely to be a Region 2 (PA, NJ, DE, MD, NY) group activity on the night of Tuesday June 24. This activity is yet to be determined. The Executive Directors of our Region will be attempting to get their delegations into the same hotel.
  • The conference itself will run four days, Wednesday June 25 to Saturday June 28. This is a change from prior years - there will be no "morning after" session following the Candle Lighting.
  • After the conference is over on Sunday June 29, we plan to give our advisors and delegates time to relax at the hotel. There will be an evening post-trip activity, yet to be determined.
  • We will fly home on Monday June 30.

Please note that this itinerary will be subject to change based on travel arrangements, as well as information from NASC that we receive between now and June.

Registration Directions

1. Please complete and return the Deposit Reservation Form with a deposit payment of $400.00 per student and advisor to the address indicated on the form.

2. You must have each student attending from your school complete and get signed by their parents a Name & Photo Release Form, so we can use their names and photos for the NJASC website and publications.

3. Each student and advisor must individually register online using this web link: NASC 2008 Online Registration. When registering, your NASC School ID number can be found on the mailing label of Leadership Magazine. If you cannot find this number, e-mail Lou Miller at lmiller@njasc.org and he will send it to you. Please make sure that you select "State Delegation" for Registrant Type, so that NASC knows that you are part of our NJASC state delegation!

4. After completing online registration, you must PRINT OUT a copy of your completed registration form and get your parent, principal, and advisor signatures. Lou Miller will sign as Executive Director once you mail this form, please note that no registration is valid without his signature.

5. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from NASC, which has a link to the online Medical Form. Use this link to complete and print out your medical form, get it signed, and...

6. You must MAIL ALL of the following to Executive Director Lou Miller at the NJASC Northern Office (Brooklawn Middle School, address given above) postmarked no later than APRIL 15, 2008:

  • Completed/signed Registration Form, printed out from online registration page.
  • Completed/signed Name & Photo Release Form.
  • Completed/signed Medical Form (your second copy), printed out from online registration page.
  • Photocopy/scan of BOTH sides of your parents' (or your) Health Insurance Card

7. All payment for conference fees and other trip expenses is made through the NJASC - please DO NOT send payment directly to the NASC office!

8. We will send e-mails in early April to all advisors and students registered to determine shirt sizes and any other information needed for final planning.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO POST-9/11 SECURITY MEASURES THE FULL NAME OF EACH STUDENT AND ADVISOR MUST BE SUBMITTED TO US BY APRIL 20, 2008. CHANGES REQUESTED AFTER THAT DATE WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED UPON PAYMENT OF A $100 SURCHARGE DIRECTLY TO THE NJASC TO COVER FEES IMPOSED BY AIRLINE CARRIERS TO MAKE CHANGES!

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FOR STUDENT OR ADVISOR NO-SHOWS OR CANCELLATIONS AFTER APRIL 20, 2008.
