Linda Rohrer has been at Cherokee High School for 11 years, the past nine serving as Principal.

In the words of Student Council President Tyler Bothel, "she is constantly encouraging our Student Council to strive for excellence while observing and helping in any way she can. Her commitment is shown each and every day from the smallest interactions, and long after the school day is over she can be found giving a speech, cheering on any sports team, or watching Cherokee students strive for excellence at various events."

In the words of Student Council Advisor Staycee Milligan, "Cherokee is a great high school, and it definitely starts at the top as she makes all students and staff feel important. Mrs. Rohrer takes a genuine interest in each student and shows that she cares about them as individuals and members of our school community. She is always willing to listen to Student Council leaders and openly discuss new ideas and suggestions."

We congratulate Linda Rohrer and the Cherokee school community on the achievement of this award. It is clear to see that the tradition of excellence for student leadership at Cherokee is a direct and tangible result of the guidance, support, and encouragement of their Principal.

Lauren Van Hook, South Brunswick High School

2009-2010 NJASC Advisor of the Year

Lauren Van Hook has been the Student Council Advisor at South Brunswick High School for the past 6 years.

In the words of Student Council President Zaniah Maynor, "Ms. Van Hook is the prime example of going above and beyond, always being one to ensure her students are achieving their goals and then some. Anyone can notice her strong passion for helping others and being a true inspiration, she has taught me that nothing comes easy without hard work and dedication."

In the words of Principal Tim Matheny, "of all the Student Councils I have worked with over the years, this one has the greatest impact on the culture of the school. The most memorable events are a result of Lauren's incredible organizational skills and the hard work of the Student Council under Lauren's eye. She is also one of the most effective teachers, who designs engaging lesson plans and is skilled at differentiating instruction for her students. She is equally adept at teaching honors students as those who struggle in the classroom, while having a remarkable ability to build a strong rapport with her students."

We congratulate Lauren, who will be our state nominee for the NASC Warren E. Shull High School Advisor of the Year award, which will be presented at the 2010 NASC National Conference at Center Grove High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
