Standards of Excellence

Standards of Excellence is a prestigious program that the NJASC and New Jersey State Board of Education initiated to encourage students to operate effectively and to reward those schools who are truly outstanding! The Standards of Excellence Award is open to any NJASC member school between grades 6-12. However, you can only receive this award once every 5 years.

Each Student Council will be evaluated on not only its current activities, but also on the guidelines for administration of the council and its effective operation. Schools participating will evaluate other schools involved and score the school (refer to guideline sheet) based on the criteria in the packet. A total talley will be counted for the points awarded. The NJASC members will determine the necessary number of points necessary to receive the award.

Community Smile Program

Application due April 25
Awards given at Spring Awards Program in May

So how do you calculate the numbers of community service hours from each school? Actually, all you have to do is calculate the number of students in a club or organization and multiply that by the number of community hours per student. This number represents the total number of community service hours. Then, add all the totals from each club to get your total amount of community hours. If students in your school have completed service hours other than in school or in clubs or organizations add them in too!  A separate paper titled "Individual" will be in the application form.
